RUSH FAQS

HOW DO I JOIN?

AXS conducts rush every Fall and Spring semester. To stay updated on interest meetings and rush dates and descriptions, tune into our Instagram during the first month of the semester.

Join our listserv at the beginning of the semester to receive email updates about rush.

WHAT IS RUSH AND WHEN DOES IT START?

Rush is a way for prospective members to get acquainted with existing brothers in the fraternity and decide if AXS is a good fit for them and if they would be a good fit for AXS.

It usually starts about a month into the semester (Late September during the fall, Early February during the spring).

Rush consists of a variety of fun events, including Speed Dating, Trivia, Murder Mysteries, Research and Service, and Bob Ross Paint Night!

HOW DO I GET INVITED TO FORMAL RUSH?

Prospective members must attend at least THREE Rush Events to receive an invitation to Formal Rush.

If you are concerned about meeting this requirement, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Vice Master Alchemists! They can help offer alternative options in the event that a person cannot meet this requirement.

WHAT IS A BID AND HOW DO I RECEIVE ONE?

A bid is an offer to formally join the fraternity through pledging. To be eligible for a bid, you must attend at least THREE Rush events and Formal Rush.

Note, attending Formal Rush does not guarantee receiving a bid.

At these Rush events, be sure to get to know brothers and try to learn more about the Fraternity and its goals! The brother will put in effort to get to know rushees and value potential pledges who reciprocate!

WHAT IF I DO NOT RECEIVE A BID AFTER FORMAL RUSH?

If you do not receive a Bid after Formal Rush and still believe that AXS is a good fit for you, we always encourage you to reapply the following semester!

Be sure to join the Rush listserv for the following semester and stay updated through our Instagram for public events you can participate in!

WHAT IS PLEDGING?

A pledge is an "associate member of the fraternity who is working towards becoming a brother."

Over the course of the semester, pledges meet weekly to learn the core tenets of the fraternity and develop leadership and team-working skills to become a full-fledged member.

DOES ALPHA CHI SIGMA HAZE?

Alpha Chi Sigma does not haze: we prohibit any discriminatory practices and ensure a safe environment for our members.

All activities abide according to UNC’s guidelines and the AXS bylaws. Any activities conducted during the pledging process at Alpha Chi Sigma are intended to foster a sense of community and brotherhood.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT TO PLEDGING?

The Alpha Chi Sigma pledging process typically lasts one full semester at UNC. It consists of weekly 1-hour pledge meetings (typically Wednesday evenings) as well as additional team-building and brotherhood events dispersed throughout the semester.
