WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A “PROFESSIONAL FRATERNITY”?
A professional fraternity specializes in its membership to common professional goals and interests. Alpha Chi Sigma is the ONLY Professional Chemistry Fraternity in the United States. It organizes its group life specifically to promote professionalism and achievement within the field of chemical sciences.
While “Fraternity” is a general terminology for Greek Letter Organizations, here at AXS we are a fraternity in the true sense of the word itself.
WHO CAN JOIN ALPHA CHI SIGMA?
Students from all schools and majors (not necessarily Chemistry) with interests in chemistry!
Membership restrictions with regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religion, disability, age, and any other discriminatory biases are prohibited.
We welcome all identities to join AXS.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN AXS?
AXS is an amazing way to meet other people interested in pursuing careers in STEM! Through both its alumni and current brothers, it provides great networking opportunities for research and employment, opportunities for professional development, and an inclusive community to be a part of.
CAN I BE IN OTHER PROFESSIONAL, SERVICE, OR SOCIAL FRATERNITIES/SORORITIES IF I JOIN AXS?
At UNC-Chapel Hill, membership in these organizations is allowed. Brothers in the Rho Chapter are affiliated and simultaneously involved in others.
WHAT IF I’M A GRADUATE STUDENT?
AXS is not just for undergraduate students - graduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill are welcomed to join!
The Rho Chapter has members in the Graduate Programs of the Department of Chemistry. In fact, some of our Chemistry teaching faculty are also AXS Brothers!
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY MEMBERSHIP WHEN I GRADUATE?
AXS is not solely for your undergraduate career:
Membership in Alpha Chi Sigma is for LIFE.
IS AXS ONLY AT UNC-CHAPEL HILL?
No! AXS has 63 collegiate chapters, 1 colony, 9 professional chapters, and 15 professional groups across 14 regional districts in the United States.
To this day, AXS has well over 70,000 initiated members.
